Congratulations go to Paul Whitrow for all his hard work adding the relTags Microfomat to GrowBlog.
RelTags are one of a series of Microformats that can be used to describe data more effectively. Currently one of the most famous uses of this data formats is Technorati tags. A tag is a descriptive word applied to a document to describe part of the subject of the document so others can find and use it. Technorati use tags to group documents that share a simillar subject.
To see this in action either go to Technorati and read more or go to this URL (http://technorati.com/tag/microformats) and edit the last portion (reltags) to whatever topic might be of interest to you and see the latest documents posted under that tag.
For GrowBlog it's an experiment and no doubt over the next few days we will become more savvy in how we use the tag facility to describe the content of the articles in a meaningful way for others to use.
The genius of tagging for us is that it's almost an expression of keywords done properly. Keywords still have significance but they are depreciated for valuable search results purely because of the abuse they've been subjected to over the last decade. There will no doubt be abuse of the tagging facility by some unscrupulous marketeers but hopefully we can contribute some valuable content and help swamp the dross with quality.
We would welcome feedback on the quality of our tagging. Hopefully we got close to right the first time out.
More features are coming soon with possible addition of Trackback and other functionality.
