Oxinium.co.uk is the UK presence for the revolutionary oxidised zirconium knee and hip implants made by Smith & Nephew.

Oxinium.co.uk was completed by Jon Tan under contract to D Johnson trading as Create Medical.

Oxinium™ joint replacements are longer-lasting than conventional implants. As traditional implants have a limited life-span, much younger patient spreviously had to wait until they reached an age where such invasive surgery became viable. Oxinium implants lower the viable age for joint replacement and through the revolutionary oxidised zirconium technology, extend the active life of those in need.

Content

The brief for this project is to educate and equip the UK patient and surgeon population about Oxinium technology. With more and more patients researching their own options for medical treatement the site will allow both communities a greater insight in to the creation and application of Oxinium implants.

Design

The design clues were to include the existing Oxinium brand colours and logos so we created a version with a particularly British style. Although arthritis and join replacement can affect younger people the majority of the target audience is slightly older. With this in mind we chose to create a 'paper' feel to the pages to deliberately provide a web experience that reflects the familliarity and usability of paper-based media.

Technology

The site was a XHTML 1.0 / Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) build using the latest interoperable technology and W3C / WAI standards for good accessibility. It features and text and full images version and will print, diplay and be read well using all standards complaint web browsers.
